Covid 19 Response

India is one of the worst affected countries of COVID 19 cases in the world.
As on 12th June about 298,000 COVID positive cases and 8501 deaths have been reported.
In the state of West Bengal alone there are 9328 COVID 19 positive cases and 432 deaths reported.
COVID 19 lockdown has left many labourers in Taldi, where Living Hope is working, without money and food.
The majority of the population is labourers and domestic maids.
With the lock down there is severe job loss and people are experiencing new levels of poverty.
In addition to that there is a threat of community spread. Should there be a community spread,
the poor, who already have low immunity will be vulnerable to infection.

We have a plan of distributing dry ration to our beneficiary children and women every 15 days.
For the next three months. If possible, we would like to extend the help to the communities living around Living Hope campus and also to go beyond.
The need here is very great. But our strength is very limited in terms of man power and expertise. We are also facing challenges in travelling, due to the lockdown.
Internet connectivity and disruption in electricity also have added to the challenges.
We thank our donors, staff and volunteers who are working hard with kind and generous hearts to provided vital sustenance for the community at this time.

In order to help the starving families Living Hope started distributing dry ration to the children who attend Living Hope school.
Also Living Hope reached out to the families of the women who are part of the women empowerment programme.
Initially the dry ration was distributed with small quantities of rice, lentil, potatoes, oil and masks.
After the first round of distribution we added toilet soap and dish washing soap to the list.
Since the neighbourhood was suffering from lack of food, we decided to extend the help to the communities living around the mission campus.
So far, we have distributed 3330 family essential kits.
